Picture craft

Thought I would submit a craft project that I just completed.  This is a fun project and adds a little interest to a vacant wall that looks lonely to you.

If you are in a rut or having a boring day or time of it, in your life, I recommend giving it a try.  And who am I to recommend this, you ask?  Well….I’m nobody but that’s the simple point; anybody can do this.  Let me know if you try….you only have to satisfy yourself and I know that’s hard to do sometimes, but it’ll make you feel good when you’re done and it’ll be you….for you did it.

A lot of people are happy, I know, and that’s great!  But it is hard to be happy with yourself all the time.  So if you are wallowing in self-pity, not feeling worthy or useful and can’t get in the mood to do anything……don’t feel appreciated ….don’t care……well….surprise yourself; give yourself a break and give this a try just to busy yourself away from your doldrums.  Still, don’t care about anything, if you want, but concentrate on  this little project and make yourself happy!  I hope you have a GREAT Saturday!

Okay.   Not to be misunderstood, this isn’t a stupendous accomplishment but will bring satisfaction to you and from others long after it’s done as compared to sitting on the couch or rocking chair staring out the window, shell-shocked at your predicament.  My best to you!

(Let’s not underestimate sitting, looking out the window, though.  I love to do that at times, too.)

Copy of 100_6944

1.  I had a  piece of plywood and cut it to the size of 21″ wide by 17″ high.

2.  I bought tiles at a local hardware store to be used in this project.

3.  I found this stock photo on the internet and made it the size 640 x 458 pxls.
(You can experiment with the size.  I usually use a 4 x 6″ picture to work with)

4.  I poster printed the picture on my printer using four (4) sheets of paper and the result is that you have to then cut and paste the  picture together. (of course a more professional approach would be having the picture blown up at a copy shop)

5.  With picture before you,  place your tiles on the picture (centering of course) leaving a uniform gap between each tile and trace around each one, after which you’ll cut out each square and affix them to the tiles with glue sticks or some sort of white glue.

6.  The final step is assembling the picture (centered) on to the piece of plywood (which you have painted, probably) and gluing each tile to the board using an adhesive like  Loctite’s Power Grab all-purpose construction adhesive.  Put a dab in each corner of the tile and press down hard, making sure that you line up the picture the way you want it.  You should be done.  Way to go!

This is not a new idea.  In fact, I saw an instructable (Instructable.com) years ago where someone printed each square on tissue paper and affixed those to tiles…..I did a few that way and they were really nice but I like the less work and just putting the picture on the tiles.

My picture above is an experiment to create a window view effect and that is why you see the panes that I created using popsicle sticks.

Remember…..this is just a busy project to keep you…..well…..busy.   And it takes just a little longer than it took me to write this.  whew!

Day

From where I live in the country, on the prairie of Illinois, due east, the horizon sits a little beyond the distant interstate highway and railroad, that parallels on its west side.  The night time creeps in there first in its sneaky, varied transitioning forms.

It is always a delight and inspiration to view nature in its changing moods.  Often, these changes are all around us and yet appear ‘invisible’ to us as we focus our attention elsewhere on other things.  However, ever so often, our moods and infrequent calmness allow us to witness and ‘feel’ some of these times when nature is in transition.  In this case, the transition is the ‘undressing’ of day.

Sitting, facing east, the feeling is pristine when the air is still, the birds are quietly bedding down, the horses stand in fixed repose against the barn, the air is ‘feelable,’  the horizon’s ‘shade’ is nearly down, the city’s lights – five miles northeast –  are blurred in mist,  you can barely make out the silhouetted trees, and the haze over the corn disappears ever so slightly, sneakily before your very eyes….’til you can barely see your own hands in the darkness that ‘plopped’ down on you and everything all around.  One minute, all that beauty  is there and then….gone….surrendered to darkness and the forthcoming end of day.  What’s left is the recap of it all….the reaping of the value that was bestowed upon us for the taking.  My recommendation would be to ‘take it all in’ sometime, when you get a chance.

Hoping you have great, whole days!

Day

Dropping down, a dusky mist
is settling on the corn.
Far off city lights resist;
disappear to be reborn.
The horizon’s shade is nearly down
silhouetted trees stand tall;
the night time is beckoning…. her call.

The country night is quiet and still;
the grass now moist with dew.
The horizon shade is down until
it brings back day….anew.
But until then the darkness basks
‘til the night of ‘day’ is done
and the ‘whole’ of day has made its distance run.

Day is only part of ‘day;’
Night is one part, too.
So if one part, you’re in dismay
the ‘other’ might bring you through.
So don’t give up if the day starts bad
go deep where heart is strong
and life will move more smoothly….along.

Saturday’s Gold

Saturday is my favorite day……it’s feeling of difference, is strong.  I’ve often confronted the ‘feeling’ and why it’s like an “opening” in the ether…or air of the world I know…..like an invisible window, letting in fresh air and brightening my world and enabling me to see things I normally don’t see….or think of things that don’t normally come to mind…..or….I know….I sound a little ‘light-headed’…..but it is something I have always sensed.

Do you have such a ‘feeling’ for some  particular day in the week that lifts your heart and makes you think…..I can do that….or…..I think that’s possible…..or……nothing’s going to stop me….I see it!…..you know what I’m talking about….as if the cobwebs are out of the way and life, for a moment, looks brighter and different…..and free?

Well, if that’s being ‘off my rocker’ for a moment….well, I like getting off the rocker once in a while to see if I can keep my ‘balance.’  Anyway, that’s where I followed my mind ….this wonderful, Saturday morning.

Crazy Horse was purported to have said, to his followers,  before going into battle at the Little Big Horn ….”It’s a good day to die!”  –  to lift their spirits into the fighting mode.  Something tells me that was on his ‘favorite’ day…when the visions are momentarily more lucid…..for all of us.

Don’t mind me…..I get this way almost every Saturday…….haha!  Thank you for dropping by….again!  You are always welcome….the coffee’s always brewing…..

Saturday’s Gold

There’s something about a Saturday
that opens up my heart
and all I see that’s on display
appears in the form of art
whether be it floating, clouded skies
or the sound of a distant train
or the sight of a ground squirrel in the yard
or a walk in the falling rain.

It’s hard to describe the relief I feel
like a shirt falling off my back;
like the smells from the kitchen of the coming meal
or just springing from the ‘sack.’
The aberrant feeling is fresh and ‘new’….
invigorating to every sense
and opens a landscape on which to paint
a day without pretense.

O Saturday…. if only you
could be my everyday
and all my senses could wake anew
and my heart, in every way,
could see the love that’s all around
through the cracks in the ether’s hold
and feel the warmth and the hug of life
and all that’s really….gold!

Beauty Sprinkles

Beauty, at first look, seems unfair in the way it has ‘sprinkled’ its charms over everything in life.  It often provokes the jealousies of life conjuring up ‘wishes’ in the multitudes of those less blessed, in their minds, by her swishing wand.  But we fail to understand how many faces beauty really has and, in this oversight, don’t realize what beauties each of us might have.  Usually, we don’t seem to have the ones we want.  So we have to go with what we have and depend on others to find the beauty in us.  I know my glimpses of beauty have often been criticized by other eyes but I always remember what someone once said……beauty is in the eyes of the beholder…….how beautiful that is.

Thanks for visiting……I’m positive you are a beautiful person!

Beauty Sprinkles

From where does it come such beauty fair
that splashes on some….not all?
And has no rules, making some despair
the dreadful fate that did befall
to them when beauty’s wand did swing
over everything in life that is
but
didn’t reach far enough, over them
but with sprinkles of only fizz.

Why do we compare our portion of
the beauty that’s spread in life
covering the world like brotherly love
like a salve to ease our strife
that helps us make our journey be
more pleasant when we fall
and helps us all to understand
the ‘picture’ on the wall.?

It’s best we run with what is ours
and do the best we can
and let all others see our scars
in the beauty of our plan
that’s in our hearts and in our words;
that’s in our beauty ‘jar.’
and gives of us, our view of love
and who we really are.

Mind and Heart

Have you ever wondered how many decisions we make each hour or each day, for that matter?  If we could fathom that and categorize them too….now that would be overwhelming…for me, anyway.  haha!

It must be a struggle for the body parts, which are subjected to the strain of the actions it has to perform  due to the decisions made by the upper echelon decision makers…namely the brain and its accomplice, the mind and its, oft-times, adversary – the heart.  It doesn’t always seem like they’re on the same ‘team’ in my body….pieces of evidence of the struggles between them seem to lay everywhere on the life’s platform from over the years….nothing severe but nevertheless…..

Well, anyway…..that’s where I journeyed today.  I hope your journey today makes more sense than mine……you’ve gotta love this life!

Mind and Heart

Today I’ll listen to my mind
and see where we will go
and hope we don’t fall far behind
wandering to and fro….
the endless paths that life presents
from which we have to choose
and make the choices that are best
from all the varied clues.

My heart and mind don’t always see
life’s different paths, as one.
At best, they struggle to each be free
of the other’s daring run
to make the best of what there is
of the clues that face them down
when choosing the path they have to take
from all the clues around.

The mind acts sometimes without the heart
with an outcome less than good.
And sometimes it acts as a lesser part
as the heart really thinks it should.
But it’s really best when they work as one
and the outcome they reach, is true
and the decision made is the very best
for the moment they’re going through.
